Your selected question

Are relay attacks possible on a contactless card?

This is a difficult and complex fraud, and there is a limited financial gain in a contactless environment given the £30 transaction limit. Also, data from any transaction can't be used more than once.

There is no evidence to date of this type of attack being carried out in countries that have been using contactless cards for some time.

Issuer and industry fraud detection systems will detect if there are hotspots of retailers accepting fraudulent relay transactions.
