Your selected question

I’m completing my PCI DSS Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) what is the PAN?

The Primary Account Number (PAN) is the 16- to 19-digit number on the front of a payment card. Only the first six and last four digits should be printed on the cardholder receipt – this is to prevent unauthorised people from copying/accessing the full PAN.

It’s best not to store full PANs, but if you do store PANs electronically, you must protect them using secure cryptographic techniques.

Never exchange PANs over email, or other end-user messaging systems.
