What is NFC contactless payment technology?
If you think about how contactless works, which uses an antenna in one item and a receiver in another, then NFC (Near Field Communication) is a simple extension of this - meaning it is now on your phone or other electronic devices and allows the two devices to talk to each other which allows the payments to be made. In technical terms, it is a short-range high frequency wireless communication technology which enables the exchange of data between devices over about a 4 centimetre distance. Simply by holding your phone close to an NFC enabled terminal such as a payments terminal you can pay for things or use your phone as a contactless travel card, a loyalty card and many other uses.
